A number of front and rear sprockets

Saw consultant again. After examining three more X-rays he was very pleased with
the progress of the bone growth and declared me OK to race for 2003. Don't need
to see him again until April.
30th January 2003
New fairing being painted to a very high standard by MPH
Ltd. Austin Healey Specialists and classic car restorations in the Cotswolds. Thanks to Pete for his offer to paint the bike for me. Visit
Pete's web site for information on Austin Healeys and classic car restoration.
Thanks to Sue and Mark at Chapman-Tyrrell Racing for assisting with the repairs and supplying my replacement race gear, leathers, helmet etc.
My father and
brother in law, who kindly loaned me their van over the last few seasons have
withdrawn the offer of its use for the 2003 season. This was their decision and
I thank them both for their support and that of Linden Leisure since 1998.
With no major sponsors this year, I have had to buy an old van to get round the transport
problem. Most of my 2003 budget was consumed with repairs to the bike and very
little in the way of funds is left for the coming season. I want to run on new tyres,
especially with slicks now being allowed, but I cannot afford all this
additional cost of tyres plus the van, so meetings might be limited.
9th February 2003
Thanks to Kevin at Hytera for supplying silencer parts for the R1. Your
contribution is much appreciated. Visit the Hytera
web site for details of replacement silencers for your bike.
16th March 2003
Bought a Renault Trafic high roof van. Not in bad condition for year but
could do with some TLC. Bike is now finished and all ready for the first meeting
of the year at Mallory on 23rd March ACU Championships. Click on picture below
for 2003 bike and colour scheme. See Gallery for further pictures.
Thanks to Colin Arthurs for supplying the graphics. Colin is located in
Bourton on the Hill in Gloucestershire and can supply computer cut graphics for
motorcycles, vans etc. Contact Colin on 01386 701230.
2nd April 2003
Have entered the next EMRA round at Mallory Park. The ACU National
Championships meeting went well after having 7 months off the bike, coming back
after the crash and getting used to all the new bits and gearing on the bike.
The radiator has now fractured it's mounting brackets, probably got damaged in the crash. Will have to try to fabricate and attach new brackets or sort out another radiator - any offers? Have ordered Pirelli Dragon Corsa's for the next meeting, so hopefully my confidence in the tyres will be restored.
Have ditched the Michelin Pilot Race 2 tyres for the tried and trusted Pirelli Dragon Corsa's for the next meeting. The Michelin's did not suit my riding style and I had too many big slides for comfort and I wasn't really pushing it.
3rd May 2003
Clive Wadey turned up at my house with his van. He had a surprise for me, he had
bought an Yamaha XJ550 for me to race in the Earlystocks. The bike is an ex Top
Banana team bike previously ridden by Keith Chambers. It looks very well
prepared and Clive has put new tyres, chain and other bits to get it sorted for
me. Thanks Clive, looking forward to riding this in the Earlystocks. See Reports
2003 to see how I get on on 11th May.
18th June 2003
The XJ550 had a really bad misfire and was not carburating properly at the first
meeting. New coils were fitted and the carburettors were rebuilt for the Derby
Phoenix meeting. Unfortunately, the bike seemed worse. Disconnecting the
tachometer seemed to cure the misfire (for some reason) but the fuel mixture was
all wrong and the bike would not pick up.
New coils are now fitted, valve clearances and valve timing checked and
corrected and the carbs have had main jets reduced from 160! to 140. The bike is
going to Lee Motorcycles at Ledbury, Worcestershire for final tuning and to sort
the problem once and for all. Looking forward to Mallory on 29th June so I can
try it out!
26th May 2003
Second place at the Derby Phoenix meeting on the R1! See Reports
2003 for details
29th June 2003
Two second places at the EMRA meeting in Earlystocks! See Reports
2003 for details
24th August 2003
Second and first places places at the EMRA meeting in Earlystocks. See Reports
2003 for details
14th September 2003
Two first places places at the Darley Moor MRRC 5th Round meeting. See Reports
2003 for details
Decided to put the R1 up for sale. If you are interested drop me an E-mail for
details. See home page for E-mail link. Not sure what to do next season, will
have a serious think of what to do. Will put details here when I have made my
mind up.
21st September 2003
A third and a second at the final EMRA round was enough to secure 3rd
place in the 750cc EMRA Earlystock Championship. Clive has offered the bike to
me for the 2004 Earlystock Championships, so will only ride that in 2004.
11th October 2003
The R1 is sold! It has gone to Mark Arabaje who is going to race it next
season in the New Era and BEMSEE championships. Good luck to Mark for 2004, hope
he enjoys the R1 as much as I did.
Now looking to the Earlystock 2004 Championship. Not sure whether to stay on the Paxford Garage XJ550 and do some modifications to get some more speed, or shop around for a new bike for myself. Anyone out there got anything interesting for sale?
