2004 Season
Clive has bought me a second bike to use as the main race bike for this season. The bike is the ex-Karl Scott Yamaha XJ550 which he successfully rode to the championship in 2002. The bike was built by Shaun Philpott and is a credit to his meticulous preparation.
Everyone seemed to think that this was the bike to beat this season, but although it is amazingly fast, the 750cc bikes have moved on and it isn't going to be as easy as predicted. Several other riders are on some capable machinery so it looks like it is going to be a hard fought and competitive season.
Bought an Ex-top Banana Suzuki GSX750 to try to salvage some points from the final rounds. The XJ550 is now the spare bike and the old spare XJ550 is now in the hands of Clive Rawlings who is going to give the Earlystocks a try at the last two Mallory rounds.
We discovered a fault on the XJ550 (exhaust system leaking) and after rectifying the fault the XJ is now flying. Wish we ahd discovered it earlier!
September 2004 - After a successful but wet two day meeting, I am now in 2nd position in the Earlystock Championship. Mick Baillie has already won the championship so 2nd position is the best I can get. there are two riders who can also get second position; Baz Swailes and Andy Charlesworth and I'm sure they will be up for a fight at the last round at Mallory Park.
I am also in 2nd position in the EMRA 750 Championship but need to beat Mick Baillie in the two remaining races to clinch the title.
NEXT MEETING - 26th September Mallory Park (Final race)
