2005 Season

Had engine top end rebuilt by Nigel Laurence. It really needed a  freshen up as it had got a bit tired towards the end of last season. Also, finally got round to doing up the van, new paint job to improve the image in the paddock.

Engine still smoking, needs a bit more work on the head, Nigel did say he wasn't sure about the guides. Will get another head ported and gas flowed ready to drop straight on.

Brilliant result at Donington, Class pole, 2nd and 1st in class - now leading Championship by 2 points. See results and reports 2005 for details.

Put both the bikes on the Paxford Garage Dyno. The Suzuki GSX750 was putting out a disappointing 60BHP, but the XJ550 was turning out a healthy 79BHP even with the engine burning vast quantities of oil.

Another good result at Mallory Park, 3rd and 2nd positions - increased championship lead to 6 points. Engine smoking very badly. My sponsor, Clive Wadey, has bought me a gas flowed and ported head and set of Yoshimura camshafts and slotted cam gears so I am now in the process of rebuilding the engine. Will put on Dyno again when rebuilt to see if it has improved the horsepower.

APRIL - Fitted new Camshafts and Nigel Lawrence timed up the slotted gears. Ran on Dyno. Down 7HP on previous runs and smoked excessively. So needs a rebuild again. Dragged spare engine from under bench - full of water! Cleaned out, got it running, sounds OK. Puts out 59HP on dyno but will do for Darley.

MAY - Spare engine ran fine at Darley but not powerful enough. Going to fit new valve guide in tuned head to see if that cures the smoke problem. Rings and pistons are perfect. Now looking at some mods for the GSX750 to get it on the pace. GSX now running fine and putting out about 80HP.

JULY - Been using the GSX750 for the last few meetings. Still not quite fast enough so got Nigel to tweak the camshaft timing to their optimum. did make a difference but have bought some Mikuni flatslides to sort out before Anglesey.

NEXT MEETING -     April 3rd Mallory Park
